Paulo Canhoto completed a PhD in Mechatronics and Energy Engineering in 2012 at the University of Évora, a Masters in Mechanical Engineering in 2004 at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon and a Degree in Processes and Energy Engineering in 1999 at the University of Évora. He is Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Évora and Coordinator of the Energy Research Group at the Institute of Earth Sciences (ICT). He has published 23 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, 13 papers in international conferences, 2 book chapters and 1 patent (European Patent Specification). He also has about 40 communications (oral and poster) in national and international conferences. He supervised 1 doctoral thesis and co-supervised another, and is the supervisor of another five ongoing doctoral theses. He supervised 7 master's dissertations and co-supervised two others. He also supervised and co-supervised a total of 25 BSc projects / internships, including 10 student internships in companies/industry. He was Principal Investigator in 3 research projects and member of the research team in 7 projects, in addition to having collaborated in several other projects. He works in the area(s) of Engineering and Technology with an emphasis on Energy, namely:
1. Heat transfer and fluid mechanics;
2. Modeling and optimization of thermal equipment and systems;
3. Conversion of solar energy (thermal and electrical);
4. Measurement, modeling and forecasting of solar radiation and solar energy resource assessment.
