Immunologic profiling in schizophrenia and rheumatoid arthritis

•The negative relationship between schizophrenia and rheumatoid arthritis has puzzled researchers for more than half a century.•There have not been studies of the immunologic and genetic structure of the two disorders in matched samples of patients with the two disorders.•This study includes study of immunologic and genetic structures in samples of 40 persons with schizophrenia, 40 persons with Rheumatoid Arthritis, and 40 healthy controls.•The analyses suggests that stratification of SCZ patients by cytokine profile may enable the use of currently available cytokine-based treatment strategies.
