arts in higher education focus largely on the studio experience in which a novice artist studies under one or more master teachers (e.g., Don, Garvey, & Sadeghpour, 2009). In more recent times, however, a shift in higher education curriculum and pedagogy in the arts has expanded this traditional conservatory model of training to include, among other components, career self-management and enterprise creation—in a word, entrepreneurship. This chapter examines the developing field of arts enterprise and arts entrepreneurship in higher education in a multinational context. The field is contextualized within the broader landscape of the creative industries and the consequential development of knowledge, skills, and the habits of mind necessary for artistic venture creation, sustainability, and success. Whereas the discourse about learning and teaching for business entrepreneurship is well established (e.g., Fiet, 2001), equivalent conversations about arts enterprise and entrepreneurship have only recently begun (Beckman, 2007, 2011; Essig, 2009). This chapter will address the contested definitions of key terms and concepts and also the question of how arts educators, although mindful of the pedagogic traditions of the arts school, are also drawing on the pedagogies of business entrepreneurship and cognitive theories of entrepreneurship to create innovative new transdisciplinary signature pedagogies for creative enterprise and entrepreneurship education in the arts.
{"h1":"eaaee","h3":"pdhm
["the arts","entrepreneurship","pedagogy","higher education
en_journal
["https://openalex.org/W4381736177","https://openalex.org/W164816304
This chapter explores how thinking and practice in creative entrepreneurship has changed and developed over the last decade, and what this means for creative entrepreneurship education going forward. Commencing with the argument that entrepreneurship in three senses (enterprise, new venture creation and career self-management) continues to be a central part of creative practice, the chapter discusses how creative entrepreneurship is distinctive, including the motivations that are brought to practice, and complexities in creative entrepreneurship processes and practices such as co-creation and bricolage. Creative entrepreneurship is changing rapidly in the early part of the twenty-first century, foregrounding foresight and agentic adaptability, network capabilities and diversification of creative work. It is more important than ever that degree programs weave adaptive entrepreneurial identity development into the fabric of curriculum, as an adaptive entrepreneurial identity underpins and directs learning, and drives career and entrepreneurship behaviour. The key to staying up to date in rapidly changing 21st century creative practice contexts is well designed authentic learning, which updates itself. Students should experience authentic learning that requires them to develop adaptive foresight - to look forward, seek to make the most of upcoming and potential opportunities as well as existing ones.
{"h1":"ce2ih","h3":"e
6578b8ec939a5f40824275f6
creative entrepreneurship","higher education","implications
["https://openalex.org/W4294031329
<Heading 1>Introduction It is the year 2030. Jacob has just embarked on his third career change in 15 years, and is enrolled in a postgraduate course with the aim of becoming a nostalgist, which is one of a ‘new wave’ of creative job roles that came about with massive advances to digital technologies. People now live longer and there is a strong demand in virtual reality experiences that allow the elderly to relive the best parts of their lives. Nostalgists combine interior design, digital research and virtual-reality development to create these experiences (Tytler et al., 2019). While Jacob is studying, he is also working part-time as a sub-contracted aged-care worker, for which he was awarded a foundational qualification last year. Prior to this, Jacob worked as a plasterer, but it was becoming too hard to compete with automated plastering services, and so he decided to change. Jacob’s story was created from themes in research interviews conducted in 2019 with experts in science, technology and social trends. While specifics such as job titles may not stand the test of time, the presence of consistent themes in the interviews helps to clarify how work and careers might unfold in the future, and which capabilities are likely to be important. This chapter shares the findings of those interviews. The speed, extent and impact of technological changes on the world of work has been subjected to much debate during the last few years. Popular media, government and consultancy reports, and academic literature alike abound with deterministic predictions of ‘robots coming for our jobs’, arguing that between 20% and 60% of job roles will disappear over coming decades under the influence of automation, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). Others emphasise the creation of entirely new jobs that are based on technological advances. A third category of future-focused literature emphasises qualitative and task-based changes to job roles. As machines become able to perform some tasks better and more cost-effectively than humans, human jobs are predicted to become either more repetitive and low‐skilled, or more complex and high-skilled. Work arrangements are already changing, with movement from a ‘traditional’
{"h1":"c1csf","h2":"jcf","h3":"waeta
61ca465c5244ab9dcb5c2e6d

Chapter 15: Do Creative Skills Future-Proof Your Job? A raft of embedded, co-curricular, and extra-curricular activities has emerged for developing employability. Their relative value lacks empirical exploration. This study explored graduates’ self-reported participation in, and their perspectives on the value of, a range of embedded, extra-curricular, and co-curricular learning activities, as well as paid work, for employability. Survey data were gathered ( N = 510) from Business and Creative Industries graduates from three Australian universities about the perceived value of activities for skill development, gaining relevant experience, networking, and creating employment opportunities. The activities were considered more useful for gaining experience and skills than for broadening networks and improving career outcomes. Embedded and extra-curricular internships, as well as extra-curricular activities, were believed to be important for enhancing employability. Internships organised as an extra-curricular activity rated better than those delivered as work-integrated learning. Implications for stakeholders responsible for curricular and co-curricular design are discussed.
["School of Business and Law, Edith Cowan University, Australia
["Centre for Learning Futures, Griffith University, Australia
{"h1":"weger","h2":"c","h3":"celpw
["Experiential learning"," Work-integrated learning"," Skills development"," Employability"," Extra-curricular activities
What actually works to enhance graduate employability? Your guest editors are Associate Professor Denise Jackson from Edith Cowan University, and Professor Ruth Bridgstock from Griffith University. The return on investment of higher education is attracting increasing scrutiny in the context of rising fees, mass student participation, and a perceived oversupply of nonemployment ready graduates. Some have argued that the strategic directive of developing student employability in a bid to improve (often short-term and narrowly-focused) employment outcomes devalues higher education learning. For others, it may provide some assurance that the higher education sector is committed to developing future-capable graduates with skills of relevance to the workforce. Either way, preparedness for work is a critical issue, as graduates transition to an uncertain world of work characterised by digital disruption, intense competition for roles, and precarious working arrangements. To accommodate these trends, the notion of graduate employability has broadened to encompass constructs such as career self-management, professional identity, a collaborativemindset, enterprise and entrepreneurship, cultural capital and social networking capabilities. Developing these dimensions is intended to empower students to achieve their career goals while developing future workers and leaders that can drive innovation and prosperity, as well as make meaningful contributions to community and society. The special issue includes eight articles which consider the impact of an employability agenda that is largely driven by graduate employment outcomes. Jackson and Bridgstock highlight the limitations of current, narrow measures of student employability and explore the career outcomes of more than 500 Business and Creative Industries graduates using traditional measures (full-time employment outcomes), along with a suite of broader measures that examine career satisfaction, perceived employability, perceived career success, underemployment, and graduate motivations for seeking new roles. Their second paper considers how higher education institutions might productively approach student employability at a strategic level, given the three concurrent and contrasting aims of enhancing short-term graduate outcomes, developing professional readiness, and enabling graduates to live and work productively and meaningfully across the lifespan. Their actionable principles to enhance employability serve to inform institutional strategy and address the tensions and challenges between the three employability aims. Divan and colleagues then explore how eight institutions in Canada, the UK and Australia conceptualise employability and the extent to which these conceptualisations are reflected in their websites’ marketing narratives.
