Guido M. Cortelazzo was born in Este ( Italy ) in 1952. He holds a "Laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica" degree from the University of Padova ( 1976 ) , and a Master Degree and a Philosophy Doctor Degree both in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ( 1980 and 1984, respectively ). From 1983 to 1986 he worked with M/A-COM Linkabit, a satellite communication company of San Diego, California. In 1986 he joined the Department of Information Engineering (DEI) of the University of Padova where he is now full professor. In 1986 he funded the Image Processing Laboratory of DEI and in 1993 the Multimedia Telecommunications and Technology Laboratory of DEI, which is still directing. In 1998 he was visiting associate with the Califorrnia Institute of Technology (Pasadena, CA ). The professional interests of Guido M. Cortelazzo concern telecommunications, image processing and computer vision. His current research concentrates on the automatic construction of 3D models of still and dynamic scenes and on their progressive transmission. The applications where he is currently engaged are cultural heritage, industrial metrology, virtual rehabilitation and medical imaging. He organized various special sessions and meetings, among which in 2002 he was co-chair of the First International Symposium on 3D Data Processing Visualization and Transmission (3DPVT) and a founding member of the steering committee. Guido M. Cortelazzo is the author of about sixty journal papers, two book chapters and one book: A. Basu, I. Cheng, G.M. Cortelazzo and S.K. Tripathi, "3D Online Multimedia: Processing, Transmission and Visualization", World Scientific Publishing, (in press), 2007. In 2004 he was Co-Guest Editor of a special issue of Computer Vision and Image Understanding with title " Model-based and Image-based 3D Scene Representation for Interactive Visualization" and in 2006 of a special issue of Signal Processing-Image Communication with title "Interactive representation of still and dynamic scenes". He holds two industrial patents.
