摘要
The transition towards renewable energy sources is imperative as conventional fossil fuels are being depleted and have harmful impact on the environment and human life. Hydrogen (H2) has become a favorable energy carrier because of its significant energy density. Green production methods such as electrochemical water splitting shows promise as a low cost and environmentally benign approach for H2 generation. Lately, the progress in 2D transition metal chalcogenides (TMDs) nanomaterials with diverse physicochemical features has demonstrated their promise as prominent non-noble metal-based electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). This review explores recent advancements in TMD-based electrocatalysts for HER, highlighting the mechanisms of HER, parameters for evaluation of electrochemical water splitting, strategies for enhancing performance, and future research directions. Through a comprehensive examination of recent literature, this review provides insights into the potential of TMDs in advancing renewable energy technologies and the development of highly efficient catalyst towards HER.
