Abstract
A dielectric self-filtering antenna realized by just one dual-mode grounded dielectric strip resonator is proposed for high gain. The dual-mode dielectric resonator is achieved by loading the grounded bars in the weak area of the electric field for the TM3δ mode, thus can move the TM1δ mode closer to the TM3δ mode effectively. Additionally, benefiting from the two grounded bars, one lower-edge radiation null is obtained for the enhanced frequency selectivity. Therefore, benefitting from using just one resonator, the self-filtering characteristic as well as high gain performance are generated. Furthermore, the out-of-band suppression level is improved by introducing non-metallized vias to disrupt the electric field distributions of the harmonic modes. Compared with the existing dielectric resonator filtering antenna, it has the characteristics of high gain, less resonator, low profile and small footprint. A prototype was measured at 13.6 GHz with the size of 0.13×0.68×0.05 λ 3 0 for test and verify, the fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 3.7%, and the peak gain of 8.97 dBi. A radiation null is generated at 11.5 GHz.
