A Calculation Method of Piano Key Weir Discharge Capacity

The piano key weir (PKW) has a high-efficiency discharge capacity. The discharge capacity is related to the key structural parameters of PKW and the water head on the weir. In this study, combining with the existing experimental data involving various PKW types and different water head, a new coefficient formula of PKW discharge capacity was proposed by using data fitting method. And the predicted results was in good agreement with the experimental data with an average error less than 6%. This formula includes multiple structural parameters L/W, B/P, Wi/Wo and Bo/Bi. Compared with the previous methods, this formula has a wider range and can be applied for PKW with diverse structural parameters including type A and type B. Besides, this formula is relatively simple to estimate PKW discharge capacity and provides reference for hydraulic structure design.
