A Wideband and Wide-Scanning Tightly Coupled Array Loaded with Double-Layer FSS

This paper introduces a novel low-profile ultra-wideband antenna array designed for ultra-wide-angle scanning. Simulation results show that the proposed antenna operates efficiently across a 9:1 bandwidth (0.8-7.2 GHz) with active VSWR less than 2, 2.5, and 3, respectively, while scanning up to broadside, 45°, and 60° in both E-plane and H-plane. Using a double-layer FSS, the total antenna height is 36.8mm, which is one tenth of the wavelength corresponding to the lowest frequency. The proposed scheme offers a viable option for next-generation integrated RF systems that adapt to complex electromagnetic environments.
