Abstract
To address the issue of indoor column protrusion and reduce the steel consumption for axial load-bearing columns, a novel T-shaped corrugated steel special-shaped column with tube (TCSC) was proposed. The TCSC is formed by combining a square steel tube with corrugated sheeting and is further strengthened by the inclusion of flange plates. Among them, corrugated plate has strong lateral resistance, shear resistance and out-of-plane stiffness, which can significantly improve the overall stability of the structure while reducing the amount of steel used. A numerical model was developed to investigate the stability of TCSC under axial compression, and two different instability modes were revealed: bending bucking and bending-torsion bucking. A methodology for theoretically calculating axial compression in TCSC was introduced based on the force distribution within the column. The validity of the design theory was subsequently confirmed through verification. Finally, the design range for the stability coefficient of TCSC was provided, offering a new design approach for the theoretical study on axial compression columns. The research results show that: The TCSC has desired axial compression bearing capacity; The proposed axial compression stability design theory can accurately predict the axial compression instability mode of the TCSC; When the normalized slenderness ratio λn is <1.2, the fitting curve has a certain envelope and a conservative ultimate bearing capacity can be obtained; By comparing the axial compression stability of TCSC and square steel tube columns, the advantages and application scope of TCSC are given, which provides a theoretical basis for the engineering application of TCSC.
