(Abstracted from Lancet 2023;402:1857–1865 Weight gain during pregnancy that exceeds the recommendations updated by the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in 2009 has been associated with greater postpartum weight retention. One systematic review of 9 studies found an association between excessive weight gain during pregnancy and postpartum weight retention of 3.06 kg at 3 years and 4.72 kg at 15 years.
