Optimization Method for Steady State Voltage Control and Transient Voltage Prevention Considering STATCOM

Abstract
This paper proposes an optimization method and a reactive power substitution strategy for steady state voltage control and transient voltage prevention with STATCOM participation. In the first stage, STATCOM and generators are jointly included in the automatic voltage control (AVC) mathematical model to take advantage of the fast response capability of STATCOM. In the second stage, the transient voltage safety index (TVSI) is introduced, and the trajectory sensitivity of the TVSI to STATCOM reactive power reserve is analyzed on the basis of the system state, and the optimal reference value of STATCOM output is determined by maximizing the TVSI. In the third stage, through the reactive power substitution between generators and STATCOM, the reactive power output values of STATCOM are controlled to the reference value obtained in the second stage. For the voltage control and safety assessment problems, a continuous three-stage framework with different objective dimensions is constructed, and the optimization method is tested in the IEEE 39-nodes system in Simulink.
