Offshore Transmission Network Planning for Wind Power Considering Economy and Grid Security

Transmission planning is important to ensure reliable and economic grid connection of offshore wind farms (OWF). For districts that have abundant wind resources, transmission planning may involve different groups of large-scale OWFs and different transmission technologies. At present, there are few studies related to large-scale OWF integration. This paper presents a new methodology for the transmission planning of multi-section large-scale wind farms. First, the economy and security concerns of OWF transmission planning are analyzed. Second, a transmission planning method is proposed considering the grouping of wind farms, transmission technology, voltage level, and connection points to the main grid. Finally, the method is applied in the case study to verify its effectiveness.
