Agriculture is an essential industry that plays a crucial role in global food security. In recent years, blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative tool with the potential to improve efficiency, transparency and sustainability in various industries. This article explores the specific applications of blockchain technology in the agricultural sector and how it can contribute to overcoming key challenges, such as traceability, supply chain management and facilitating secure transactions. This review is part of the research carried out in the European H2020 project, SUSTAINABLE, whose strategic objective is to test and validate new state of the art Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems as decision support systems (DSS), on a sound economic and technical basis, for appropriate management procedures in precision agriculture depending on specific climatic, geographical and environmental conditions.
