Paul Heyse's Italy - an intercultural scenography?

Paul Heyse has been neglected for many years. The article explores the potentials of rediscovering his Italian novellas with respect to intercultural relations. Specifically, the concept of scenography is used to identify narrative devices that frame the picture of Mediterranean landscape, people and culture in such a way that the complacent attitude of German visitors and readers is challenged.
