The correct authorship of Caleacte, Calea pinnatifida and C. urticifolia (Compositae)

A nomenclatural and taxonomic review of Caleacte R.Br. shows that Caleacte R.Br. (1817) is to be considered as a provisional name, validly published in Steudel (1821), while Caleacte Less. (1830) is considered a later homonym and then illegitimate. Calea pinnatifida must be considered as validly published in 1817 and authored by R.Br., whereas the combination C. urticifolia was also published in 1817 and authored by (Mill.) R.Br. We provide a nomenclatural interpretation of Caleacte, Calea pinnatifida and C. urticifolia based on their original contexts, annotated in taxonomic notes.
