Abstract
This paper reports on the implementation of a novel triband antenna array in a FR1/FR2 5G New Radio (5G-NR) system. The proposed array combines three different dipole-shaped antenna subarrays with the following bandwidths: 650–880 MHz, 2.76-4.2 GHz and 24.9-27.8 GHz. Its adjacent element mutual coupling is kept lower than -20 and -30 dB for interband and intraband conditions, respectively. Furthermore, all array elements provide a beamwidth of approximately 60 °, cross-polarization lower than -20 dB, and gain from 7 to 9.7 dBi over the designed 5G bands. The performance experimental results demonstrate the applicability of proposed antenna array under real microwaves and mm-waves indoor propagation conditions in accordance to the 3GPP requirements, as a function of the Root Mean Square Error Vector Magnitude (EVM RMs ). The new triband antenna array topology enables to perform high-quality simultaneous intraband and interband transmission/reception over different FR1 and FR2 standardized channels.
