Impact of chemical elements determined by the neutron activation analysis on ambient environment quality in the Republic of Moldova

Environmental pollution has become one of the most important problems in many countries of the world, including the Republic of Moldova. For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, neutron activation analysis was used to evaluate the content of chemical elements in mosses, soils, fruits, and medicinal plants. The simultaneous determination of a considerable number of chemical elements allowed the assessment of the state of the environment based on these data. This proposal established the optimal physico-chemical conditions for the removal of rare earths, which are of economic and ecological interest, using biological sorbents. Determining theelemental composition of medium samples is extremely important for estimating their quality and impact on consumer health, as well as establishing their provenance. While the results obtained for sorbents can be used for the development of metal removal methods with the aim of reducing their concentrations to the maximum permissible limits and recovering precious elements.
