Abstract
A single-layer miniaturized patch antenna with four covering bands and pattern diversity property is presented. The pattern diversity derives from the superposition of equivalent multipoles. The driven circular patch could provide diverse magnetic current sources and meanwhile, the tightly coupled, parasitic monopole pair could provide two extra vertical electric current sources. Two broadside patterns are superposed by a pair of anti-phase vertical electric current sources and a pair of in-phase magnetic current sources from the TM11 mode of the circular patch with a 90° delay/advance. A dual beam along the y-axis is achieved by the superposition of a pair of in-phase vertical electric current sources and a pair of anti-phase magnetic currents from the circular patch with a 90° delay. Further, an x-axis-oriented dual beam takes advantage of a pair of in-phase vertical electric current sources and two pair of antiphase magnetic current sources from the TM21 mode of the circular patch with a 90° delay. Its multi-band and pattern diversity properties make it meet the requirements of vehicular communication applications.
