Abstract
Annual vaccination is the most effective protection against influenza and its serious complications. It is especially im- portant for people at high risk of severe course of the disease and serious complications: individuals with specific chronic medical conditions, pregnant women, children aged 6-59 months, older people, and healthcare workers. Despite a progressive increase in seasonal vaccine coverage, influenza -related morbidity, mortality, and hospitalization rates remain high and have continued to increase in people aged 65 years and over. Standard vaccines against influenza are less efficient in this group due to immunosenescence. Con- sequently, more effective vaccines are needed to prevent influenza and its complications in older adults.
