Study on Modification of Eco-Friendly Nylon Insulation Material for Medium Voltage Switchgear

Recent years, Fiber-reinforced P A6 (nylon 66) composite has been used as insulating material for medium voltage switchgear because of its performance advantages and environmental protection value. However, there are still many performance distances compared with epoxy insulation materials. In this paper, according to the insulation requirements for medium voltage switchgear, modification was practiced for P A6 by using high-performance aromatic P A6T. The variety of formulations of PA6 and PA6T mixing ratio of 3:7, 5:5, 7:3 was studied. The mechanical and electrical properties as well as the long-term electrothermal aging property of these formulations were compared with the P A6 material and epoxy material as the reference substances. The results showed that the mixture ratio of 5:5 has ideal comprehensive properties and is an ideal environmental protection substitute insulation material.
