Ionoluminescence from Europium-doped BaMgAl10O17 nanophosphors under different doping concentrations

In the present work, we report the synthesis of Eu3+ doped BaMgAl12O17 nanophosphors, which can be used as red phosphors for display panels and lightning devices. Eu3+ doped Ba(1-x)MgAl10O17:Eux (x=0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.5, and 0.6) nanophosphors were synthesized by chemical route by varying Eu concentration. Structural/morphological information of prepared nanophosphors and the oxidation state of the doped Eu ions were elucidated by X-ray diffraction/scanning electron microscopy and X-ray absorption near edge spectroscopy, respectively. The optical properties of prepared nanophosphors were studied using the ionoluminescence (IL) technique by bombarding 120MeV Ag9+ and 100 Ni7+ ions. Ionoluminescence studied by Ag ions shows two different behaviors against applied ion fluences. IL intensity increases initially, followed by a reduction, or it starts decreasing and reaches a minimum value. Also, the ion fluence required to achieve maximum/minimum luminescence is shifted to a lower value with doping percentages. On the other hand, Ni ions irradiation shows an increase in the luminescence followed by reduction/saturation in the intensity for higher ion fluences.
