Halide perovskites (HPs) are becoming a research hotspot for sensing food-harmful substances due to their excellent optical and photoelectric properties. However, practical applications of HPs are widely restricted by structural instability and poor sensing performance. This review summarizes the recent advances in the stability-improved and performance-enhanced HPs for sensing food-harmful substances. The mechanism, typical cases, advantages and shortcomings, promising developing orientations, and summary tables of the HPs’ stability-improved and performance-enhanced strategies for sensing food-harmful substances are systematically introduced. Meanwhile, the challenges and perspectives of enhancing stability and performance in sensing applications are proposed. We hope this review can provide fundamental knowledge of HPs and enlighten more imaginative and novel designs for improving HPs’ stability and performance when detecting food-harmful substances.
