Polarization domains of fiber laser radiation

Abstract
The novel mechanism of spatiotemporal separation of radiations with orthogonal polarizations in fiber lasers has been investigated by numerical simulation. In the lasing model under study, this separation is associated with polarization-inhomogeneous gain saturation in the fiber amplifier. The proposed theory makes it possible to explain the main experimentally observed patterns of formation of radiation polarization domains in ring-cavity fiber lasers.
