Detection of -papillomaviruses in extragenital cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas

Previous studies have demonstrated that human papillomaviruses (HPVs) of the beta genus can contribute to the onset of cutaneous carcinomas in organ transplant recipients. In contrast, there are limited data related to the oncogenicity of alpha (alpha)-HPVs in the skin. Herein, we explore the characteristics of three cutaneous squamous cell carcinomas presenting alpha-HPV infection occurring in patients with HIV, in order to determine the role of alpha-HPV in these skin cancers.
