Comparative perspective of the first civil service exams to enter the careers of the justice and the public attorney in brazil, between the first republic and the 1950's

The article seeks to compare historical data about the first civil service exams to the Judiciary in Rio Grande do Sul, still in the First Republic, that is, before 1930, for admission to the career of the Public Prosecutor of Rio Grande do Sul, conducted in 1941, of the Santa Catarina Public Prosecutor's Office in 1952, and of the Federal Military Public Prosecution Service between 1956 and 1959. The text is based on a collection of primary sources, such as interviews, newspapers, correspondence and records books of the first exams. Events are analyzed in the context of managerial innovation of modernity, in the sense of rational-legal bureaucratic construction. Brazil has experienced pioneering experiences in conducting public exams, which, initially, were still exposed to the classical indistinction between public and private space, which characterized the Brazilian social formation.
