Bone depth and thickness of different infrazygomatic crest miniscrew insertion paths between the first and second maxillary molars for distal tooth movement: A 3-dimensional assessment

•We generated 3-dimensional models (n = 72) of the infrazygomatic crest region.•Bone depths and thicknesses of 27 insertion paths of each model were measured.•There was a significant negative correlation between bone depths and bone thicknesses.•A safe insertion protocol should take the bone depth and thickness into consideration.•The clinic risk and proper miniscrew size of each path were provided.
