A Novel Method for the Sidelobe Suppression of Antenna Array with Beam Tilting

This study proposes a novel method for the sidelobe suppression of antenna array with beam tilting. Different from traditional methods, it adjusts the active pattern of the array element by loading the split-ring resonators (SRRs). By this mean, it realized the lower sidelobe level without changing the layout and amplitude-phase distribution of the array. To verify this method, a prototype is designed. The sidelobe level of the proposed array has been reduced by 2dB at 2.5GHz, by adjusting the active pattern. Meanwhile, the half-power beam width (HPBW) of the antenna array remains stable.
