Sparse Array Synthesis with Off-Grid Algorithm Based on Gauss-Newton Method

Based on the orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm and the Gauss-Newton method, an off-grid algorithm for sparse antenna arrays is proposed. Specifically, the OMP algorithm is employed to obtain a reliable set of initial values at a particular sparsity level. These values serve as the starting point for the iterative process. The Gauss-Newton method can update the locations of excitation sources to approximate the theoretically optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm yields an almost accurate pattern compared with the uniform planar array (UPA).
