Research progress of cathode catalyst for field-assisted Li-O2/CO2 battery

The slow dynamics of the cathode electrode of the air is the core scientific problem faced by Li–O2 and Li–CO2 batteries. It will limit the reversibility of the charge and discharge reaction and bring about a large polarization voltage. This will not only lead to low energy efficiency of the battery, but also too high charging voltage will bring a large number of side reactions to the cathode electrode (including the destruction of the cathode electrode structure, catalyst failure, electrolyte decomposition), which greatly limits the ratio and cycle performance of the battery. So the development and design of air cathode electrode is of great significance for the development of Li–O2 and Li–CO2 batteries. Therefore, a new strategy for field-assisted Li–air batteries is proposed. In this paper, the method of external field-assisted strategy and the research progress of cathode catalyst selection, design and control of discharge products for Li–air batteries are introduced.
