An Improved Modeling Method Combined With Mixed Finite-Element Method for Integrated Passive Devices

In this letter, a new modeling method based on the improved GDS file and the corresponding tech file is proposed for the integrated passive devices (IPDs). The new modeling method can model the stacking process of different materials more accurately than the simulation model in an advanced design system (ADS). Then, the mixed finite-element method with fast sweep (MFEM-fast) is employed to solve the electromagnetic fields in IPDs. Two IPD models are used to verify the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method by comparing with high-frequency structure simulator (HFSS), ADS, and measured data.
