Abstract
The Tianwen-1 spacecraft is China’s first Mars exploration mission, released by the China National Space Administration (CNSA). It was launched from the Wenchang Space Launch Center on Hainan Island on 2020 July 23 and entered into a Mars orbit on 2021 February 10. The Tianwen-1 payload consists of 13 instruments, seven of which are deployed on the orbiter and six of which are put on the Zhurong rover. A rapid ICME swept across Mars' space environment between 00:00 on December 10 and 20:00 on December 11. Multi-spacecraft observations from Tianwen-1, MAVEN, and BepiColombo are used to investigate the impact of the ICME on the Martian upper atmosphere and ionosphere.
