Abstract
Since its foundation in 1983, the German Society for Music Psychology (DGM) has brought together researchers and practitioners interested in musicology, psychology, education, medicine, sociology, philosophy, music therapy, instrumental pedagogy, and other applied fields. The DGM organizes conferences on current topics in music psychology at different locations every year, maintains contacts with related scientific societies in Germany and abroad, and supports young scientists through workshops, conference grants and yearly awards. The journal Jahrbuch Musikpsychologie, which has been published since 1984, and includes articles in German and English, and appears both digitally (open access, without publication fees) and in print. This article sheds light on the founding history, and outlines recent developments and initiatives of the DGM. Key questions include the variety of scientific topics in conference and yearbook contributions as well as the position of the DGM in national and international contexts.
