Research status of mechanical properties of aluminum alloy grid structure

Aluminum alloy is widely used in space grid structures because of its low density, good corrosion resistance, high strength, excellent processing performance, cold environment adaptability, and high sunlight reflectance. In recent years, a large number of studies have been carried out on the mechanical properties of aluminum alloy grid structure. In this paper, the theories, numerical methods, and experimental research on aluminum alloy space grid structures conducted by researchers worldwide are summarized, including static mechanical properties, seismic behavior, fire resistance, and other mechanical properties, as well as corresponding design methods, etc. By reviewing the existing studies, it is found that there are fewer system types of aluminum alloy grid structure structures, and most of the studies focus on static mechanical properties, while there are limited studies on wind, seismic, and fire resistance. As for the design method, there is no globally accepted standards are presently accessible, and only Chinese standard T/CECS 643-2019 provides pertinent guidelines for aluminum alloy spatial grid structures, but the applicability is yet to be further verified. Furthermore, the possible directions for the future development of joints used in aluminum alloy grid structures are proposed. It provides a reference for research and engineering applications of aluminum alloy grid structures.
