Growth and magneto-optical properties of Ho-doped Tb3Sc2Al3O12 single crystal for faraday isolators

In this work, a novel Ho -doped Tb3Sc2Al3O12 magneto -optical single crystal has been successfully grown by the Czochralski method for the first time. Phase composition of the crystal was tested by XRD measurements. The distribution coefficient of Ho3+ in the crystal was obtained. The crystal exhibits excellent optical transmittance without inclusions. It shows a uniform elemental distribution and excellent magneto -optical properties. The Verdet constant is comparable to Tb3Sc2Al3O12 crystal and higher than that of traditional Tb3Ga5O12 crystal. Therefore, the Ho -doped Tb3Sc2Al3O12 single crystal is a promising material for visible near -infrared Faraday applications.
