Abstract
In this work, the extended finite element method (XFEM) has been used to model semipermeable crack with Maxwell stress in magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) material. The Maxwell stress includes both electrostatic and magnetostatic tractions, which are developed due to the presence of electric displacement and magnetic induction on the crack surface. The mechanical and dielectric equilibrium for the semipermeable crack is achieved by incorporating the Maxwell stress on the crack surface. This semipermeable crack is enriched with eight-fold enrichment functions to capture the electro-magneto-mechanical singularity at the crack tip. The accuracy of the XFEMbased semipermeable crack model is obtained by comparing it with literature solution. The interaction integral is modified for several crack configurations in the presence of Maxwell stress to evaluate the magnetic induction intensity factor (MIIF). The effect of far field load, crack face boundary conditions, Maxwell stress, poling direction, volume fraction, and dielectric constant, are studied on the normalized MIIF.
