摘要
Over the last nearly 20 years since the AAP first issued guidance recommending universal screening for autism in pediatric primary care, screening rates and autism prevalence estimates have greatly increased.125 However, given that the median age of autism diagnosis remains much higher than the usual recognition of first signs of autism (especially among minoritized racial and ethnic groups, low-income children, and those from families who prefer a language other than English), additional work is needed to promote equity in autism identification. Novel screening approaches are being developed, but reliance on technology will require ongoing attention to ensure bias is not perpetuated. As we await publication of the repeat comprehensive, systematic review and pursuant guidance by the USPSTF, children and families are in need of ongoing support, attention, and services to address autism -related concerns. Screening is just one piece of that puzzle.
