Abstract
In this work, we consider the minimization of the peak age of information violation probability in the wireless communication system. For any given sampling rate, the optimization of power adaptation is developed based on the control-communications co-design approach, which utilizes the inherent ability of control applications to tolerate a limited number of consecutive packet losses. A Markov chain failure model is established, and the mean time to failure (MTTF) is introduced as a performance metric for system reliability evaluation. A constrained Markov decision process (CMDP) problem is formulated and solved to obtain the optimal policy. Also, a suboptimal threshold-based policy is proposed. Numerical results show that the proposed optimal policy can increase the MTTF by orders of magnitude compared with benchmark schemes.
