A Two Stage Bridgeless Boost PFC Charger Configuration with Hybrid Switching Capacitors for LEV Applications

This work demonstrates a charger configuration for light electric vehicle charging (LEVC). It shows an alternate approach to explore a boost topology of power factor corrected rectifier. It needs start from the necessity of boost PFC converter because of optimum power quality, input current specifications and increased efficiency. However, there are many applications where the output voltage is regulated to be at a lower level than that of the input. Utilizing normal two stage configurations put a severe stress on the DC link capacitor. Therefore, a unique two stage configuration is presented consisting of a switched capacitor cell inherently capable of providing a low gain for the voltage, which is then again stepped down in a second stage for other applications requiring even lower voltage. This ensures the stress on the DC link remains within a nominal range. The converter works in continuous current mode (CCM) and an overall control complexity is less. The circuit is designed and analyzed through simulation, which shows its overall primacy in performance.
