Abstract
The sensor networks play an important role in the field of Industrial Internet of Things (IIOT). The IIOT system includes smart sensors, machines, tools, software platforms, cloud sensors and applications. Some of the key concerns of applications of sensor networks in IIOT are fault tolerance, reliability, availability, scalability, cost, etc. Among these, fault tolerance is a challenging parameter due to the complexity, dynamicity, heterogeneity of the system. This survey focuses primarily on different aspects of fault tolerance mechanisms, fault taxonomy and dependability of the sensor networks. The detailed study of literature of the recent past considering various implementation parameters were presented in the paper. Some comparison studies have been discussed considering the parameters like dependability, reliability, scalability, availability, energy, network lifetime, delay, connectivity and cost.
