Research on a New Control Method of Squirrel Cage Induction Generator for Wind Turbine

In order to maximize the power generation efficiency and minimize the cost of the squirrel cage induction generators system, proposes a new control method of the squirrel cage induction generator for wind turbine. This control system consists of the voltage source converters, the power factor correction converter and capacitors. The squirrel cage induction generator is possible to have the maximum power point tracking control by using voltage source converter for excitation, and transmits all active power output from the generator to the DC side through the power factor correction converter in parallel, and uses the capacitors to compensate the reactive power required, so that the voltage source converter only provides reactive power to the generator, the cost of the squirrel cage induction generator system is minimized. For increasing efficiency of that system, the conditions to minimizing the loss and the reactive power consumption of squirrel cage induction generator were analyzed.
