A Singular Value Decomposition based Protection for MMC-HVDC Grid Line Fault

摘要
The reliability and sensitivity of line protection for modular multilevel converters-based HVDC (MMC-HVDC) grids are inevitably affected by fault impedance and serious external faults. Therefore, this paper proposes a singular value decomposition (SVD) based protection with high sensitivity against high-impedance fault using local information. To research the effectiveness of the proposed protection method, Zhangbei dc gird is simulated in the platform of PSCAD/EMTDC and case study is performed considering different fault scenarios. The case study result reflects that this protection scheme can rapidly detect faults and accurately recognize faulty area.
