Research on the Principles of Roughness Estimation and Range Correction for Flat Surface Based on Frequency-Modulated Continuous Wave Radar

This paper proposes a method for estimating surface roughness based on frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) millimeter-wave radar and using the estimated roughness values to detect standing water and correct range errors. Firstly, the radar echo signals from rough surfaces are derived, revealing a monotonic relationship between the intermediate frequency (IF) signal and surface roughness. Leveraging this characteristic, a lookup table relating roughness and range errors is established. In practical scenarios, the roughness can be initially estimated using the IF signal, and then the range errors can be corrected by referencing the roughness-error lookup table.
