High Gain and Broadband mmWave Vivaldi Antenna for 5G High Band Application

This work presents the performance of a Vivaldi antenna for the 5G high band spectrum covering 24.25 – 27.5 GHz. The Vivaldi antennas are known widely for their wideband bandwidth and high gain due to their tapered slot design. We have optimized the proposed Vivaldi antenna through four development steps, including applying the gradual corrugated edges, and circular slots, adding a conductive triangle, and using a shorting pin. Based on the simulated results, the proposed Vivaldi antenna has an impedance bandwidth (IBW) of around 7.1 GHz, covering 22.1 GHz to 29.2 GHz. Next, the simulated VSWR values are in the range of 1.09 to 1.48 at 24.25 – 27.5 GHz. Furthermore, the proposed Vivaldi antenna produces a gain in the range of 6.2 to 9.4 dBi, with a peak gain at a frequency of 27.4 GHz and an angular width (3 dB) is 42°. The proposed Vivaldi exhibits good characteristics for the millimeter wave spectrum.
