Abstract
Carbon dioxide radical anion (CO2 center dot-) is a highly reactive nucleophilic radical species that has recently emerged in organic chemistry as a strong single electron donor (reductant) and as a reactant for the synthesis of carboxylic acids. In general, CO2 center dot- can be generated by either direct reduction of CO2 or HAT of formate salts. Achievements in reactions involving CO2 center dot- have been witnessed in recent years. This Review summarizes the recent advances in reactions involving CO2 center dot- by highlighting some challenges and identifying potential areas of improvement, which may offer inspiration for future studies.
