Abstract
In today's era the energy crisis has resulted in surge of energy prices, due to which consumers are suffering and this research study aims to use energy wisely and conserve it. An audit in an educational institute was executed and analyzed the energy consumption of different sections of college hostel. Major causes of energy wastage were identified, some of them are an improper use of resources, old equipment and techniques, wastage of energy, excessive consumption, etc. Some of the measures that can be taken in consideration to prevent energy crisis are transition to renewable resources, purchase of energy-effective products, proper utilization of energy etc. The aim of this work is to reduce the wastage of energy and somehow contribute in prevention of energy crisis by implementing a LDR(Light Dependent Resistor) with the lights of the hostel rooms so as to have a control over switching of lights with the help of a microcontroller and prevent using light at daytime when there is no need of artificial lightnings.
