An Improved Hybrid Control Strategy for UAPF- based Microgrid System for Active Power Line Conditioner with Power Flow Control

This paper proposes an improved hybrid control strategy for a universal active power filter (UAPF)-based microgrid system for active power line conditioner. Conventional UAPF enhances power quality (PQ) alone and consumes more amount of power for the same. As a result, the converters utilization factor and power handling capability decrease in the system. To improve the above, the microgrid system realizes by the integration of external sources at the DC link of UAPF. For this, a hybrid control strategy is proposed to estimate the reference qualities and produce the switching signals for the desired operation. With this, the converters act as active filters for PQ enhancement, and power converters to carry out grid-feeding, grid-supporting grid-forming configurations for microgrid operations. Also, it reduces the power rating and increases the utilization of the back-to-back connected converters. Besides, the comprehensive coordination strategy between reference and load powers helps to improve the system's power handling capability. The system with the proposed control strategy is modeled in Simulink (2022b) platform and its performance is analyzed. The improved performance and effectiveness of the proposed controller in terms of PQ issues, transient time and power flow analysis are validated under various test conditions.
