Abstract
The design and control of the active charge balancing (ACB) architecture are critical functions of the battery management system (BMS) in lithium-ion battery applications. In recent years, multi-active half-bridge architecture has gained attention in energy storage applications. Similar architectures can be used in these applications due to their inherent soft switching ability and faster-balancing operation. However, they face the issue of power density and higher development costs. A nonisolated multi-active charge balancing circuit has been proposed in this paper to enhance the power density with reduced cost, and detailed modeling with operational analysis of the circuit is presented.
