Abstract
The first water electrolyzer system based on solid polymer electrolyte technology was developed by General Electric (GE) in the 1970s. GE sold their proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies to Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies. This also led to the creation of new subsidiary of Hamilton Sundstrand, called International Fuel Cells.
