Impact of Maximal Velocity and Acceleration on Energy Consumption of a Subway Vehicle

Abstract
This article investigates the potential for energy savings in a subway vehicle by modifying the velocity reference (i.e., maximal velocity and maximal acceleration). The studied subway system is based on Line 1 of the city of Lille, France. Simulations reveals that a 20% reduction in reference velocity results in a 10.48% decrease in energy consumption while increasing travel time by 10.07%. Additionally, modifying the maximum acceleration does not have a significant effect, presenting 0.94% of energy reduction for a 20% reduction on the maximal acceleration value.
