Abstract
the shipping industry is responsible for a significant proportion of global greenhouse gas emissions. Thereforereducing the carbon footprint of ships is crucial for a more sustainable future. One approach to achieving this is through the addition of alternative fuels. This article aims to optimize a hybrid power system for a ship to minimize its carbon footprint. A single objective algorithm is used to optimize the power system, considering the global environmental impact. The optimization process results in an energy mix that combines a fossil fuel engine, batteries, and fuel cells. The potential reduction of CO2 emission and the payback period are presented as results of a case study of the optimization method at the end of the article. The article highlights the importance of optimizing hybrid power systems for ships and the potential benefits in terms of reducing carbon footprint and achieving sustainable maritime transportation.
